Kinesio Tape and the Kinesio Taping method were founded by Dr. Kenzo Kase. Detailed and extensive research lead to the development of this lightweight elastic (latex free) therapeutic tape. It was originally used in Japanese clinical rehabilitation settings but has relatively recently been embraced in many countries throughout the world. You may have seen athletes wearing the tape in 2008 Summer Olympics, 2010 Soccer World Cup, however it is not just athletes that benefit from Kinesio Tape. It is currently used by patients of all ages for a range of purposes. It is comfortable and durable and it acts as a continued treatment and rehabilitation for conditions in between appointments.
When /where can it be used?
Your therapist Fionnuala Corcoran has completed Kinesio Taping Fundamental and Advanced Courses (KT1 and KT2) and has successfully used Kinesio Tape for many conditions including: reducing muscle spasm and muscle tightness, strengthening weakened muscles, reducing pain, reducing inflammation and swelling, reducing or eliminating disfiguring scars, reducing bruising.
The tape can be used on almost anywhere on the body where its use is indicated by assessment by your therapist, although hairy areas may need to be shaved first. The tape is always comfortable and comforting to wear, is generally worn for 5 days at a time.
